Carnation Dancer

Rescue Date: May 8th, 2020

Dancer was rescued from the Sexton’s Horse & Mule Kill Pen in Sneedville, Tennessee. She was scheduled to ship in 8 hours when we saved her from a generous donor who sponsored her bail fee.

Dancer had been a broodmare for the Horse Racing Industry most of her life, a registered Jockey Horse. Dancer was saved just seven days after her 15th birthday.

Dancer was the sweetest mare, loved to be petted on, tolerated the farrier, and loved her herd mates (our personal horses). Sadly, Dancer did not get her fairy tale ending.

Dancer had several medical issues back-to-back after arriving at the farm. From having lice, fighting off Pigeon Fever, and a shoulder injury/fracture. Just after three months we had to euthanize her with the advice of our vet due to complications from her shoulder injury. Dancer suffered what the vet believes was a blood clot to her brain causing severe neurological issues. We did not have a necropsy performed on her, but our vet said that it is a common issue for blood clots with leg/shoulder fractures and that is what he believed happened since she had zero symptoms up until the morning she had to be euthanized.

Dancer was surrounded by those who loved and cared for her in the three months that she was here and our vet humanely let her go to end her pain and suffering. Even after experiencing this with our first kill pen rescue, we would still save Dancer all over again because we know she felt more love and care in those three months than she did her whole life.

Rest in peace sweet girl, we are sorry the industry let you down and we couldn’t save you sooner.
