Remington’s Legacy

Rescue Date: June 4th, 2022

Remi was rescued from the Sexton’s Horse & Mule Kill Pen in Sneedville, Tennessee. He was scheduled to ship in 9 hours before we rescued him.

The reason Remi was sold at auction which ultimately ended with him in the hands of a kill buyer, because he was 80% blind. Remi was just 6 years old when he was abandoned at the most vulnerable time in his life.

We were able to track down not only his breeder, you read that right, Remi is also a registered Tennessee Walking Horse with good bloodlines. We learned from his breeder that besides them, he only had one other owner his whole life from the age of 4 months old when he was weaned which we confirmed when we reached out to that owner.

Remi has Uveitis and due to his condition being left untreated when first diagnosed, he has sadly lost 100% of his vision now. With the help of our vet, we tried everything we could to prevent him losing his vision completely but sadly too much damage had already occurred before he came to us.

Remi is now 9 years old and an ambassador here at the rescue and will live his life out here. He helps educate the public about his condition, the importance of treating any medical condition early, and the most important part is that just because he has special needs doesn’t mean he deserved to be sent to slaughter. Remi loves being groomed, getting treats, and acting like a toddler in everything. He has adapted well to his new lifestyle and has learned a lot of verbal cues and commands to help him with his daily care and life on the farm. Remi has also taught us a thing or two about horses with special needs too!
